Who Is Ganesh Naik?

Ganesh Naik was born on September 15 at Bonkode, small village in the city of Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra, India) in a family of farmers & landlords. He started serving the natives of Navi Mumbai when he was still in his teens. After serving as a union leader and positions on Gram Panchayats, he was elected as MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) in the state of Maharashtra in 1994. He served as Minister of Environment in the Maharashtra government.He was elected again as MLA for two consecutive terms between 2004 to 2009 & 2009 to 2014. He served as the Cabinet Minister for Excise, Environment & Non-Conventional Energies in the governments between these periods. In 2019, he was elected as MLA for his fourth term from the constituency of Airoli, Navi Mumbai. He and his wife, Mandakini Tai Naik have two sons – Sanjeev Naik & Sandeep Naik.

Early Life And Parents

Ganesh Naik was born in a family committed to welfare of their village. His father, late Ramchandra Naik, influenced Ganesh Naik early on as a boy to reach out to those who needed help while his mother late Subhadra Tai Naik ably supported his father and moulded the personality of Ganesh Naik. Back then Navi Mumbai was a village of farming and fishermen community with a chemical industrial belt in its periphery known as the TTC MIDC Industrial Belt. And as the city began to transform from a countryside town to a planned city of 21st century, it was Ganesh Naik who led the path to its progress. This earned him the title “Architect of Navi Mumbai”.

How Was He Named Ganesh?

According to those friends of late Subhadra Tai Naik, they chose the name Ganesh because Ganesh Naik was born on the auspicious occasion of Ganpati. And many believe this is the reason why, he is so immensely blessed by Lord Ganesha.

Donning The Role Of A Union Leader

In his early youth, Ganesh Naik donned the role of a Union Leader for labours working in the industrial belt. He worked for their upliftment, welfare and well-being. He was instrumental is maintaining a harmony between industrialists and their workers.

Early on Ganesh Naik understood that employment generation was integral part of the overall economic development of Navi Mumbai. As a youth Union Leader, many are witness to how Ganesh Naik travelled between Digha to Shirawane in jeeps & buses looking out for vacancies in the industries & getting youth employed.
