Forest Minister Ganesh Naik announces action plan to protect Maharashtra’s tigers and leopards

 

During a press briefing in Mumbai, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik announced several measures being undertaken by the Forest Department to prevent the deaths of tigers and leopards in Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters, Ganesh Naik informed that while 52 tigers were reported dead in 2023, the number dropped to 36 in 2024. "Efforts are being intensified to ensure the protection of these animals," he said. Additionally, to enhance the habitat for wildlife, a proposal is being prepared to plant fruit-bearing trees in the core forest areas. Ganesh Naik also emphasized the importance of social forestry, noting that 21% of the state’s land is currently covered by forests.
