Former Minister & Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik have been consistently following up cleaning holding ponds across Navi Mumbai. Due to mangrove sensitive zone laws; the cleanliness of holding pond now requires approval and delay in getting an approval has led to a lot of sludge collecting in the holding ponds. This is also causing flooding in some low-lying areas when it rains consistently. The proposal sent by NMMC to Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority by NMMC includes a comprehensive & report by IIT, Mumbai, SACON (Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History). An approval is expected to ensure holdings ponds are cleaned before monsoons.
